Business Challenge

Cellars.com.au was developed to solve two major challenges within the Australian wine industry: fragmented retail discovery and limited direct-to-consumer digital infrastructure for wineries.

At the time, consumers struggled to discover independent bottle shops, wine retailers and local cellar doors online, while wineries faced increasing pressure to improve direct-to-consumer sales and digital visibility.

The opportunity was to create a scalable wine discovery platform that combined retail store discovery, winery visibility, organic search traffic, ecommerce marketplace functionality, distributor integration and direct-to-consumer wine sales.

The challenge involved building a platform capable of scaling nationally across thousands of retail and winery entities while supporting both organic search acquisition and marketplace growth.

SearchForecast Solution

SearchForecast designed and developed the Cellars.com.au platform as a large-scale wine discovery and ecommerce ecosystem focused on search visibility, entity discovery and marketplace scalability.

The platform included a directory of approximately 9,500 Australian retail liquor stores and bottle shops, creating a highly scalable long-tail SEO structure designed to capture geographically targeted wine and retail search demand across Australia.

SearchForecast developed the site architecture, SEO framework, entity structure and location-based content strategy to improve discoverability for bottle shop searches, wine retailer searches, local liquor store searches, winery discovery searches, wine brand searches and regional wine queries.

The platform grew to attract up to 50,000 unique visitors annually through organic search visibility and wine discovery-related traffic.

SearchForecast then expanded the platform into a direct-to-consumer wine marketplace connecting wineries, distributors and consumers through integrated ecommerce functionality.

The marketplace successfully onboarded more than 1,100 wineries supplied through over 40 Australian wine distributors, creating a large-scale product and winery inventory ecosystem.

The project required scalable marketplace architecture capable of supporting thousands of winery profiles, extensive wine product inventories, distributor data integration, ecommerce functionality, search optimization, long-tail product discoverability and regional wine content expansion.

The platform combined marketplace functionality with organic search strategy to create a scalable acquisition engine built around wine discovery, retail search intent and product-level visibility.
